Warning Signs Seen Prior To Killings
Elyse Colon Unengaged, Unattentive To 2 Boys
SAN ANTONIO — With two little boys stabbed to death and their mother charged with capital murder, neighbors and friends Thursday night said they are stunned. Others have said there were warning signs.Kim Jefferies, a spokesperson for the Brighton Center, a center for children with delays and disabilities, said members of her staff became concerned after their first meeting with Elyse Colon.Jefferies said Colon, the mother of one-year-old Guillermo Garcia and three-year-old Jose Luis Garcia, seemed unengaged when staff members met with her about her eldest son.”They did the initial visit and, at that point, mom didn’t seem very attentive and wasn’t very responsive in processing the information, so they made sure at the next visit the CPS worker was there,” said Jefferies.Brighton Center staff members later contacted CPS again, after noticing one of the boys had bruising on his body.Jefferies said Thursday she and her staff were devastated to learn the boys had been killed.Elyse Marsyl Colon, 22, was charged with two counts of capital murder after admitting to fatally stabbing her two young boys Tuesday.
