With two little boys stabbed to death and their mother charged with capital murder, neighbors and friends Thursday night said they are stunned. Others have said there were warning signs.Kim Jefferies, a spokesperson for the Brighton Center, a center for children with delays and disabilities, said members of her staff became concerned after their first meeting with Elyse Colon.Jefferies said Colon, the mother of one-year-old Guillermo Garcia and three-year-old Jose Luis Garcia, seemed unengaged when staff members met with her about her eldest son.”They did the initial visit and, at that point, mom didn’t seem very attentive and wasn’t very responsive in processing the information, so they made sure at the next visit the CPS worker was there,” said Jefferies.Brighton Center staff members later contacted CPS again, after noticing one of the boys had bruising on his body.Jefferies said Thursday she and her staff were devastated to learn the boys had been killed.Elyse Marsyl Colon, 22, was charged with two counts of capital murder after admitting to fatally stabbing her two young boys Tuesday.

  1. I’m a mother and I can’t even imagine doing such a thing. So sad…

  2. We keep going around and around the problem, and never allow ourselves to admit the root cause.

If CPS and CASA were truly in the business “For the children”, then they are either incompetent or stupid.

As the kidnapping and attempted selling of the Ranch children very clearly showed, the name of the game is selling marketable children.

MOST of the children who are killed by their parents are children who have been brought to the attention of CPS and CASA and have been left at home despite the indications to the contrary.

If a child is marketable, they are almost always taken out of the home, sometimes even if they are still in-utero. If they are killed or abused, it is usually done in foster care or after adoption.

The criteria for removal is rarely dependent upon whether or not the child has been abused, but whether or not he/she can be leased out to foster care, or sold on the adoption market.

Now some folks might consider that a mighty jaded view, but I’m not the one who was tearing children from their mothers arms and standing around the shelters waiting for children to exit the womb and snatch them before they took their first breath.

Pure and simply: These people are ghouls who do it for fun and profit.

  4. Duaneh,

If CPS wants to continue to have the authority they have now (which is clearly evident based on how they raided the ranch) then they’d better bloody well earn it and start making a positive difference.

  6. Uh, I’m not so sure everyone thought she was going to kill her children. I also don’t think we should blame CPS for this.
If we want CPS to have less power to grab children on the flimsiest of pretexts, then they should not be held as responsible if something goes wrong.
