A LETTER FROM RAYMOND JESSOP

Thruthwillprevail has posted a letter from Raymond to his family, and they wanted to share it with us. He is undergoing what Texas calls “Classification” which is a 60 day process. I will explain what this process entails following his letter. Raymond can, by Law, receive mail from anyone who wishes to write him. He is restricted to sending mail to a certain number of people on his “Approved” list, and that list will most certainly be filled with family.

Raymond can overcome this restriction by sending out generic responses via Truthwillprevail, and I hope this will be the case. There are thousands of people who support Raymond and his family, and it is vitally important that he be made aware of that fact. One of the hardest things about prison is the lack of knowing what’s going on on the “Outside”. Keeping “In touch” is in itself a huge comfort to people in prison, and I sincerely hope you will keep him in your prayers and in your hearts. He is in the belly of the beast and needs to know that he does not walk alone. I highly doubt that the system will put any of the men together, they will try their very best to keep them as isolated from each other as possible, much like they did to the children. You can expect to see them placed from one end of Texas to the other and for no other reason than to pour as much salt into their wounds as possible. Allan and Michael will follow Raymond, and until the Appeal is one and they are all freed, there will likely be more. Write to each one if possible, it WILL be the best possible thing you can do for them.

Letter from Raymond Jessop to His Family

January 12, 2010
Well Hi everybody. It is about 9:00 am. I am in Huntsville, Texas. I think it is about 60 or 70 miles [actually over 100 miles] east of Austin. They transported me over here yesterday. I think we got here at about 1:30 pm. Is everybody doing all right? Is everybody healthy and strong? I am doing fine. This is very much a new experience and Wow! All I can say is, it is a new experience. I know Heavenly Father and the Angels are close by. I only pray for the strength of Heavenly Father to bear me up and help me be a good representation. I pray our dear Prophet will have health and strength and that he will be delivered. It is my Yen’s [daughter Millennia’s] birthday today. Please give her a big hug for me. Mary, please tell Grandfather where I am. I hope to be able to get commissary in a few days so I can write more letters and get envelopes and stamps, etc. I don’t know how long I will be here. It could be up to 60 days. No family visits, no phone calls. Only attorney visits. This is a classification unit and it takes 45 to 60 days for them to classify you and then send you to the big prison. I don’t know how big this place is, but I am guessing there must be two or three thousand inmates here. (Just guessing) Well, I surely do miss everyone. I am praying for you and I know you are praying for me. I so much love all of you. I hope all of you know it, from the oldest to the youngest. You are all in my prayers. Please write back and let me know how you’re doing.
P.S. Mary, you might have already done it by the time you get this letter, but all my stuff is over at the Sheriff’s office. Just call them and make arrangements to pick it all up. By the way, I forgot to tell you, one of the first things they do when you come in here is shave your head, so my head is very much shaved right now. It feels like my face does when I haven’t shaved for 2 or 3 days so I am sure my buzz is a lot more buzzy than Par’s. The only thing they let you wear is a pair of white boxer shorts and a pair of white coveralls without any sleeves, so things are a little breezy. We won’t even talk about what it’s like at shower time. Wow! Might as well be a herd of cows getting ran through the chute.  Sure grateful for the shower though. I discovered that the County Jail is slightly clean compared to here. I was flipping roaches off my bed and off the wall through the night. I am doing ok, though. I want you to know that. It’s just “welcome to the pen.” I hope an attorney will come and see me and let me know how the appeals is going. I do have my Triple [Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price]. I also have five picture pages. I am so very grateful they would let them in. I am just a looking forward to your return letter. Man, that sure was a blessing to get to talk to you on the phone every day and see you once a week. Oh, guess what else, there is a huge window right in front of my cell, and I can see sunshine and trees and grass and hills and cars going past. I am on the second story in a tiny 5’ x 10’ or so cell. I share it with another man—pretty squishy. I have the top bunk.
Love, Ray

  1. I am literally sick of the barbaric inhumanity of this so called “civilized free nation’. There is a plague of mental illness in this country due to having been “indoctrinated”.

I hope you can see now that this Prussian theory of workplaces and schools isn’t just some historical oddity, but is necessary to explain customary textbook structure and classroom procedures, which fly in the face of how people actually learn. It explains the inordinate interest the foundations of Rockefeller and Camegie took in shaping early compulsory schooling around a standardized factory model, and it sheds light on many mysterious aspects of modem American culture: for instance, why, in a democracy, can’t citizens be automatically registered at birth to vote, once and for all?

Compulsory schooling has been, from the beginning, a scheme of indoctrination into the new concept of mass man, an important part of which was the creation of a proletariat. According to Auguste Comte (surely the godfather of scientific schooling), you could create a useful proletariat class by breaking connections between children and their families, their communities, their God, and themselves. Remember William Harris’s belief that self-alienation was the key to successful schooling! Of course it is. These connections have to be broken to create a dependable citizenry because, if left alive, the loyalties they foster are unpredictable and unmanageable.

  2. Duane:

I knew it wasn’t you, and I told them so. Then they asked if it was my daughter. No. Not her either.

Someone also said that they had given me thumbs up on some posts, but the SLT system gave me thumbs down. She advised asking the moderater if there is a glitch in the system. Not sure if I believe her. Anyone on our side is automatically given thumbs down. Doesn’t matter what we say. It’s always been like that. Thumbs down is an indication of the hatred that the KS feel toward us. Thumbs down is also an indication of the hatred and bigotry they feel toward the FLDS, not a glitch in a system.

  4. Duane,

I think you should know that some people were accusing you of hijacking Betty2468’s screen name and posting under that name at the SLT site yesterday. I told them that I did not think it was you.

I don’t understand why Betty2468 continues to post under that screenname. She knows that multiple people use that screenname (or variations of it.)

  5. Cupcake, the answer is no. Kdee Ignatin goes by Boots. I’m not sure if she posts on the SLT. She runs the TripleAsses blog.
Betty, Magadelana and Betty2468 are the same person.

  6. Duane,

Does Kdee aka Boots also go by the screen names Magdalena and/or Betty2468 at the SLT site?

I think she’s the one who claims to be the “original Betty,” although several other people have posted there using similar screen names. How can anyone claim to be the “original Betty?” Betty is a nickname for Elizabeth, a name that has been popular for centuries.

Girl, 9, Gives Birth to Baby Boy
    Feb 02, 2010 8:07 AM ESTA
9-year-old girl has given birth to a healthy child in northeast China, MX reported Tuesday. The baby, reportedly a boy, was delivered via Caesarean section on January 27 and weighed in at 6 pounds.Circumstances surrounding the girl’s pregnancy were unknown, but her parents have sought legal help, according to the City Evening News, as sex with a child under the age of 14 brings with it an automatic rape conviction.Despite the young age of the mother, who is from Songyuan, and the potential for severe complications, it has been reported the mother and her new baby are doing fine. The baby was delivered at Changchun hospital, in the Jilin province. The nursing staff refused to comment.

  8. i read this and i laugh!! Because texas laws are used whenever they want to use them and with the persons they want to use it.
When i travel by car to the US i have to get out of my car and get my i95 permit because i have a colombian passport. But when i go with my hubby who is mexican and my children they dont make me get out of my car. The funny thing is that when i go alone i even get an orange paper that says terrorist alert cause i was born in israel!!!

On January i had a bar mitva at mcallen texas. Mexicans get their USA visa on a card sort of a credit card valid for 10 years lol. But i ased for my youngest daughter at the embassy for the visa stamped on the passport because we had a trip to miami and i needed it ASAP 3 years ago. Also the mexican passport for younger ones untll they are 5 years old is valid for one year so i always have to take with me two passports the one with the visa and the non expired one. But this time when we where on the bridge and i too out everyones documents i realized i left home the passport with the visa AND THAT THE LiTTLE ONE´S PASSPORT EXPiRED 5 DAYS BEFORE” i was really nervous and gave all the documents to the customs guy. And guess what????? He even made us open the door of the SUV and he goes who is this one and who is that one and he said ok have a nice weeend!!!
ROFL!!! to tell you the truth my mother had traveled from florida to see us at our cousins bar mitzva and i was really happy that i was going to see her and the children where going to be with her but on the other side i wished i had a camera with me to show the world how corrupt the sistem is!! And this was after Obama said USA had fixed their security. so listen a 4 year old with an expired passport and an NO ViSA got into mcallen!!!

    So much for texas laws!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a totally anti mormon law. They use them whenever they want to with the persons they dont like.

  9. Ron, there is a huge difference between a pre-pubescent 8 year old being sexually molested by an adult and a sexually mature D-cup 16 year old girl enthusiastically “going to town” on an older dude. I had several female classmates in high school who dated guys in the 20’s and 30’s.
You hear about about that 15 year old back in the 80’s who obtained a fake id and performed in numerous porn flicks? Her name was Traci Lords. Funny thing is not one of the millions of customers who watched these tapes suspected she was just a “little girl”. Only when someone did some research did they all cry “kiddie porn”!!

How about the undercover cops who asked the 13 year old prostitute for a “blow job”? I bet they were enjoying their work. I wouldn’t be suprised if this girl was arrested because she refused to give them a “freebie”. I heard something like 20% of streetwalker’s johns are undercover police who get “freebies” in exchange for “protection”.

  10. Ron The fact that these young women do not regard themselves as victims is significant.

You know Thomas, I think there is something to that argument. Obviously Judge Conn in Arizona must have considered it when he sentenced the folks before him.

Of course the counter argument is one of indoctrination.

Either way, that’s more a punishment argument than a legally guilty argument.

    10. Ron in Houston on February 3rd, 2010 at 5:48 pm
  11. Ron The fact that these young women do not regard themselves as victims is significant. The only harm that anybody at the Ranch have suffered has come from LE and CPS. If there are no victims, there should be no imprisonment. Children as young as ten can be prosecuted as adults in Texas. Last month, there was an article in the Fort Worth Paper about a sixteen who recieved a 40 year sentence. These young women are morally aware enough to make moral decisions.

  12. Duane

You know I’ve gotten into several large pissing matches over at FLDS Texas.

I don’t know if I said something like you’re quoting, but if I did it most likely was in the context of religion. I tend to be quite disrespectful of religiously mandated ignorance.

As to being bipolar - part of my job is to watch videos by kids who have been sexually abused. So, I’m no big fan of older “dudes” having sex with girls under 17. So, yeah, sometimes I can be quite harsh; however, I do see somewhat a big picture (or at least I try.)

And yes, there are bigots and haters out there. However, not everyone who sees this as a black and white law enforcement issue is either a bigot or a hater.

    12. Ron in Houston on February 3rd, 2010 at 4:01 pm
  13. I guess this is “lets talk about Ron” day. Oh well, the bigots at FLDS texas still talk about me from time to time even though my last comment on that blog was posted months ago.

Ron did rip hard on Triple ap lady (kdee aka boots) for her persistent calls to round up ALL 50,000 or so Mormon fundies based on “we know who they are” as probable cause. He also derided Buster Johnson’s call to literally exterminate the Mormons fundies by “allowing them to die out naturally”, presumably by using incarceration and sterilization as the chief weapons. The fact BusterJ occupies a governmental post is really scary.
On the other hand, several months ago Ron posted a comment on flds texas directed at me where he said something to the effect of and paraphrasing…”I may be going out on a limb but polygamists don’t deserve any respect at all”.

    Ron suffers from bi-polar disorder.
Just kidding! What I think happens is he starts wondering whether the FLDS are collectively being treated to harshly but then succumbs to peer pressure by his bigot buddies or reads of a new alleged FLDS atrocity while surfing the web and slips into “All FDS are evil” mode.

It seems the bigots assume that most of us who support the fundie mormons believe that ALL fundie mormons are perfect and pure people when nothing could be furthur from the truth.

I and even BillM have been harshly critical of certain aspects of FLDS rule that have nothing to do with polygamy or even underage marriage. There is a difference between criticizing decisions made by some people in the FLDS as opposed to calling for the de facto extermination of an entire religious minority numbering in the ten’s of thousands.

So while I may not like everything about the FLDS or fundie mormonism in general; the haters and bigots who call for their eradication absolutely sicken me.

  14. If Harvey Hildrebran is interested in protecting girls as he claims to be, why isn’t he doing more to help the underage prostitutes in Dallas?

From “Sex Slavery: The Desperate Plight of Many Women” by Laura Baeur, KansasCity.Com

“More than 1,800 Las Vegas youths under the age of 18 were in juvenile lockup on prostitution-related charges between 1996 and 2007, according to a study released this year by Shared Hope International, which rescues victims of sex trafficking. In Dallas, 165 youths were in police custody on prostitution-related charges in 2007 alone. Shared Hope officials believe all of these kids were victims and should not have been thrown in jail.

“We have to stop criminalizing, arresting the kids,” said Shared Hope founder Linda Smith.”

  16. I don’t know anything about Ron vs. Allen Holm. Truthfully, I don’t want to know because I like both of them.

I enjoy reading Ron’s posts here. I think he helps to make our discussion interesting. I’ve learned a few things from him too. I don’t expect Ron to agree with everything I say; I don’t think he expects me to agree with everything he says. Ron doesn’t constantly hurl insults at us like most of the K.S. do. His posts are not hateful. I give Ron a thumbs up.

  18. Thomas - I’m really ambivalent about Raymond Jessop. I do think that he’s in prison more because society is mad at him rather than being “afraid” of him.

WC - I don’t take glee in most people going to prison. Some really deserve to be there and those I might take glee in seeing them be incarcerated. Bill is right about this ultimately being a clash between secular society and religion. In my book, Raymond Jessop was following his religion. His religion ran afoul of secular law and now he’s going to prison because of that.

  19. I’m not going to register as a member of the Ron Fan Club anytime soon, mainly because of the things said to Allen Holm, but I find him different than the other C.S.s. They are vindictive, anal, ignorant and hypocritic to the core. Ron’s only fault is his tendency to follow “The Law” even if it led him to the oven doors.

That said, he does have potential to actually think for himself and not follow the crowd admiring the Emperor’s new clothes. There’s hope for him while folks like Natalie, Angie and barbie are hopelessly mired in the muck they create.

  20. Ron is semi-giddy because he has several convictions of FLDS men now. That’s how these people work, they are not happy unless people they percieve as wrong are suffering.

  21. Thomas,

I see no specific animosity against Raymond by Ron.

  22. There has been one person in 4 years convicted of Hilderbrands Law; Allan Keate.

Both Raymond and Michael are under the old Law.

The “Law” was made for Mormon’s only, and was used against Mormon’s only. That’s why it will not stand.

    22. Bill on February 3rd, 2010 at 3:16 am
  23. While this won’t have a direct effect on Raymond’s conviction, it would be most informative to find out the number of 1st degree felony sex assault convictions in Texas since 2005 on account of the underage partner being between 14-16 and the defendent being “prohibited from marrying” the alleged “victim”. I say this because otherwise it would be a 2nd degree felony.
Surely, there have been several convictions in the past 4 years involving 14-16 year olds. Did the prosecutor determine whether or not the accused was currently married or not?

  26. I used to work as temporary staff in the medical infirmary of a minimum security prison. The guards weren’t nice to me either.

While I worked there, one of the older inmates had a chest xray taken. It showed that the man clearly had lung cancer. The prison doctors did not tell him. No treatment plans were discussed. I thought that was wrong.

  27. The prison industry needs improvement in all areas, IMHO…

Yeah, it’s really a shame. They’ve had several outbreaks of Hepatitis A at the county jail in Harris County.

I do understand that sometimes folks need to be locked away. My attitude is to lock away those that you’re afraid of and not those you’re mad at.

In any event, those locked away should not have to “flick roaches” off their bunks or worry about communicable diseases.

  28. David Berkowitz and I were about three cells down from each other at Dannamora. Because he has AIDS, he never came out of his cell, but I would say that between him and the guards, I would have trusted him more.

You have to remember; when he went to prison, he didn’t have AIDS. If the guards want to “Play” with you, they’ll be sure to bunk you in with bull studs that have AIDS, and you’ll soon join the club.

Let’s also not forget; The soldiers who “Played” with the prisoners in Iraq were National Guard troops. Their jobs back home were as prison guards. They merely brought their talents to Iraq with them, they didn’t develop them over there.

  30. As for the letters themselves, stay positive, light and optimistic without getting sickeningly sweet. He’s dealing with reality, not Disneyworld.

Try not to ask questions, that only frustrates him because he cannot answer them.

He is living for his Appeal. This thing will most likely end up in the Supreme Court (The real one) before this is over, so he needs to know that and not get discouraged if the lower Court’s uphold his persecution.

    Learn how to read a prisoners letters, there are things he can’t put in writing, but they are there. For example;

    “A New experience”.

Even before you get off the bus, you are confronted by a CO (Guard) who tells you in the King’s English that if you don’t tow the line, he’ll beat you dead.

Once inside, you are ordered to strip naked and you get your number. They don’t tattoo it on your arm anymore, that’s a little too obvious.

Then you go for a shower and they pour a liquid on you to kill the “Lice”. You then stand there for 5 minutes or so, while you are on display for everyone’s enjoyment, including the female guards just to add a little more salt. If you “Salute” the female, you’ll go through prison life with a bent penis.

You then get a haircut, the last one you’ll receive in prison unless you ask for one.

For the next few weeks, you are medically “Examined”
(A joke), Psychologically “Examined” (A bigger joke),
your “History” is discussed (Your “Crime”) and you are classified. (Maximum, Medium and Minimum security.)

Most people think that being classified “Minimum Security” is the best option. They are wrong.

Being classified Minimum Security means that you have the most to lose. The COs know that, and will try their level best at every opportunity to “Violate” you (Give you a “Ticket” for bad behavior) and send you to Medium security.

Being Classified Medium is little different than being classified Maximum, except that you still have something to lose, and if the guard has a bad hair day, off you go to Max.

In Max, the COs rarely “Play” with you, because they realize that since you have nothing to lose, they just might end up not going home that night.

As for the inmates themselves, it’s the only Institution in Texas that deals with reality. They recognize the racial divide, and they do not mix the Negro’s and the Hispanics. Doing so will likely result in a riot, and they might get hurt in the interim.

They will mix whites with Negro’s or Hispanics, but only if they want the white guy dead or on his stomach.

There are two classes of whites; white’s and skinheads. Skinheads band together for protection from Negro’s and Hispanics, and are usually kept separated by the COs. The whites are on their own; they are the sheep among the wolves.

For supposedly stealing a book, I spent my time in Dannamora Max, Auburn Max, Downstate Max, Fishkill Max and Greenhaven Max (Also known as Gladiator School).

My last year was spent at Mt. McGregor Minimum. I watched more inmates getting beaten at McGregor than any other facility. It was all done by the guards.
One inmate was so badly beaten that the local hospital, Glens Falls Community, refused to admit him and the COs had to take him to the Infirmary at Green Haven prison.

I was never beaten because I was valuable to the Negro’s and the Hispanics. (There were no skinheads in prison at the time, they organized for protection after I left).

I could read, write, add, subtract, multiply and divide. I also knew the Law and became a Law Library Clerk. I read their letters to them, wrote their letters, taught them English, taught G.E.D. classes and wrote their Motions and Writs to the Court’s. In return, they didn’t kill me.

Prison will either crush a man, or make him stronger. I believe the FLDS man will come out stronger, and I certainly believe their children will need no instruction concerning the Government and what ends they will go to destroy their religion.

Whether they like it or not Texas has made these men Martyrs to their Faith. It’s not necessary to make converts out of his fellow prisoners, but Raymond and the rest of the men can educate these men as to the Truth of their convictions and their beliefs.

If Texas were serious about protecting it’s young, it would have it’s prisons full of these kinds of men. Yet, after 4 years on the books, all we have is these 3 Mormon’s being charged? The inmates will see through that faster than barbie can limp into court.

    Their prison number
    The prison they are in
    The unit they are in
The cell number they are in

This information will be available from the TDOJ a few weeks after he is placed in his “Permanent” facility.

I will try to get it sooner from the Ranch, and if I do I will let you know.

He can receive books, magazines and newspapers directly from a store or from a subscription. I will try to find out what their interests are (Fishing, hunting, skiing, etc)
