Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman! The Kansas City Kiddie Caper.

I’ve been known to call cops stupid and ignorant at times, but I never expected them to be so utterly gullible as to run around digging up and looking for none existent notes, dead 300 pound men, babies born to 11 year olds, and by tomorrow, probably the Holy Grail.

It appears that this sheriff is still haunted by his incompetence in allowing a rapist and his girl friend to drive away from a rape scene, that he’ll believe anything said to him and arrest anybody on crackpot statements.

300 pound dead men and dead babies don’t disappear. Girls kept in crawl spaces after being kidnapped for two years are generally reported missing by their parents. Did anybody ever report either of them missing?

Is Kansas City being run by Maury Povich? Is Nancy Grace the D.A.? Did anybody drown in a bowl of chicken soup?  Is Rozita Swinton living in Kansas City now?

  2. According to the Kansas City Star, Darrell Mohler (the great uncle from Florida) is scheduled to appear in court in Missouri on Tuesday morning.

Since the alleged 26 year old victim is claiming to have suppressed memories, I am wondering if LE or the courts are aware of the AMA’s policy (and APA’s policy) that recovered memories are unreliable and should not be assumed to be true.

  3. Re: Mohler story

I have decided to reserve judgment until the police have completed their investigation. However, I think some of the statements that the women have made sound a bit far-fetched (killing the 300 lb. man, the girl kept in the basement for years, etc.)

What surprised me the most was the former LDS bishop’s failing to notify the authorities about the mother’s complaints of child abuse. There is no mention of it in the Salt Lake Tribune. You would think the bishop’s failure to notify LE and CPS (and the story about the mock weddings involving children) would have the KS clucking like hens. Where’s Brook Adams when you need her?

  4. I think what Cupcake was referring to was this:

Col. Ben Kenney of the Jackson County, Mo., sheriff’s department said Wednesday that several booklets found at the home were about incest.

“The thing that was unusual was the title and the references,” he said. “They were very explicit. … It was all on sex with family members.”

Sandra Mohler, the wife of Burrell Mohler Sr., told detectives she found some of the material “that made reference to incest activity among family members”

Perhaps the word “references” led Cupcake to conclude that Mohler wrote notes on the material, when in fact it was just some loose phrasing in the warrant.

    Source: http://www.kansascity.com/437/story/1578045.html

I think it will be interesting if police discover the same scenes in these booklets that the accusers think they are remembering.

  5. “Repressed memory” was a convenient way for the lawyers to get over the hurdle of the Statute of Limitations so they could sue the pants off the Catholic Church. Nothing more, nothing less.

It’s interesting to note that the only reason the main accuser in the Great Mineola Sex Club Fantasy, Cantrell, got off was because he could not be legally charged with raping two little girls in his care while in California.

Now, the State of Texas has given him custody of three of the Mineola children, two of them girls, so he can resume his favorite pastime, all with the blessings of CPS and CASA. (If he thinks that is either Libel or Slander, perhaps he could hire Natalie to sue my ass off?)

As for the Missouri Caper; when it comes to the goons making statements, I’m reminded of a few they recently made.

“The children have an extraordinary amount of broken bones. These children have obviously been subjected to physical abuse.” (Cockerell on the floor of the Texas Legislature, never recanted, never apologized for.

“These are the worst child pornography pictures I have ever seen.” (Some flatfoot concerning two little girls in the bathtub taken by their mother in Tennessee.)

“Trust me David, I swear on my mother’s grave, you are not going to be attacked.” (The Sheriff of Waco talking to David Koresh just before they were all burned to death by the FBI and ATF.)

What they originally claim, and what reality turns out to be is generally two completely separate events. Only a cop can look at a rainbow and see Anarchy.

When is the last time you answered the phone and wrote a note on the closest thing to you?

If the notes end up being “Take Sally to the dentist at 10:00″ I suggest that the note does not mean that their grandfather plans to rip all the kids teeth out for some S&M fun.

Show me a 300 hundred pound dead man. Show me notes written by children and buried for 15 or 20 years, show me ANY pictures or video’s of these children involved in anything elicit, and THEN I’ll pat the goons on the back.

Until then, it’s bullshit stacked upon more bullshit.

  7. Part of the reason why I am interested in the AMA’s stance of recovered memories is because I have read several of Julie’s posts in which she said that Warren Jeffs would have won the lawsuit Brent Jeffs filed against him if Warren had responded.

Perhaps if Warren had responded, he might have helped others who have been falsely accused of abuse based on repressed memories.

During my research, I learned that:

In 2003, California’s Supreme Court struck down a California law that retroactively extended the statue of limitations for molestation cases. The law was passed during an era of hysteria over recovered memories and satan ritualistic abuse.

Elizabeth Loftus, a psychology and criminology professor at UC Irvine, stated, “I want to tell you that there are plenty of real sex abuse cases. Most never forget. They didn’t tell anyone. These repressed memory cases trivialize the real abuse cases.”

  8. Cupcake (Lady),

You should have stuck to your original impression.

As a dyed in the wool New Yorker, Bill Medvecky not only does not shirk from contentious lawsuits, he welcomes them. I speak the truth, which some people cannot abide and want to claim “I’ll sue you!”.

I have never been successfully sued, so if there’s anybody out there who wants to be the first, I’ll send them my address once again.

I went on a cruise to the Bahama’s, but I’m back now looking for the 300 pound dead man that those little girls killed.

  9. I forgot to mention that Burrell Mohler, Jr. is no longer a member of the LDS church. He was excommunicated several years ago for conduct that was not related to child abuse.

    9. Cupcake on November 21st, 2009 at 7:59 pm
  10. In following the story of Mohlers, I came across the story of the murder of Susan Nason in 1969. Twenty years after the little girl ws found dead, her best friend Eileen Franklin told police that she remembered seeing her father, George Franklin, rape and murder Susan.

George Franklin was convicted of murder and spent 6 1/2 years in prison. His conviction was later overturned due to a technicality. When Eileen accused her father of killing her best friend, Mr. Franklin did not respond. The judge did not tell the jury that they should not assume Mr. Franklin’s silence was a confession.

The Susan Nason case is interesting because it shows the weaknesses of recessed memories. In the 80’s and 90’s, many therapists convinced their patients that they were abused as children but did not remember it. Many patients only remembered being abused after they were hypnotized. Recessed memories can be influenced by what other people say or what is read in newspapers, etc. The AMA issued a statement that recessed memories should not be considered reliable.

  11. What I had posted elsewhere:
    KC Star’s article states:

“…In court documents to support the latest charges, the sisters told of bestiality, mock weddings, sex in a church and being made to have sexual contact with each other while their father, grandfather and uncles watched and laughed.”

“…They told investigators they remembered being taken from location to location for photographs on beds with naked men and in provocative poses. In 1988, several of the sisters ran away to flee the abuse, but they later returned home. As punishment, their father, Burrell Mohler Jr., allegedly made them watch him sodomize another sibling.

This is the FIRST time I have seen anything reported that actually has included allegations involving SEX to have also been reported by the “sisters“. The closest I’ve seen to that was merely “ABUSE”, which could be as minor as verbal abuse.

No matter what the outcome is here, I believe it is best for all to have questioned the absence of more information that substantiated the claims made by the one sister, through recovery of “suppressed memories”

    *************************

These reports are evidently not all from “suppressed memories”, but I am still skeptical about what is the truth when we’re also reading of deaths and other such wild tales. I do not ever just drink the koolaid, and this mess has too many flavors mixed in.

  12. You know, Cupcake, these men might not be the kind of people that I’d want as next-door-neighbors, but just because someone keeps a porn stash & might be a physically abusive a-hole doesn’t mean they’re guilty of all the wild allegations that have been made in this case. There is, so far, no physical evidence of anything these women have claimed, & now the cops are saying there “might” be child porn in Sr’s porn stash. Okay, if so, then they’ve got him on THAT charge, but the rest of it is so out there, I’m expecting the next thing these women to claim is that their Grandpa summoned ET & they were abducted by aliens at his behest.

  14. While it is certainly possible that one or perhaps 2 of these Mohler men diddled with these kids and perhaps other family members were made aware and failed to report it, the tale that has been spun so far is absolutley ridiculous. 300 lb. men kidnapped and stabbed to death by an uncle and his 7 year old nieces, forced bestiality with a dog and now we hearing…a horse, abortions at age 11, dead babies, unrelated girl abducted and held as a sex slave in a crawl space for 2 years without anyone noticing or missing report filed by her parents…this is someone’s perverted sex fantasy.
If any criminal acts took place, the truth will probably never be known since the whole story has been mucked up by huge bags of manure.

  15. Update on the Mohler case:

The Kansas City Star is reporting that Burrell Mohler Sr.’s wife made him live in the basement after she discovered his stash of incest-related pornography. The polilce claim that notes about family members were written on the magazines. The police are investigating videos found in Burrell Sr.’s home as well in the home of one of his son’s. The police haven’t disclosed what they found on the videos.

One of the son’s former wives claims that she and her husband left the Community of Christ and joined the LDS church across the street. A former LDS bishop has been interviewed by the police about what he knew about the Mohler family.

I think this case is so sad. If the allegations are true, my heart goes to the young women. No child deserves to be abused. The thought of children being abused in such an atrocious manner turns my stomach.

I have considered the possibilty that Burrell Sr. may have molested his sons and taught them that incest was acceptable behavior. His first wife died many years ago, and she may never have known about it. If that’s what happened, his sons were victims too.

If the allegations are false, I’m sorry for the Mohler men. I am troubled by the fact that most of case seems to rest on recessed memories.

We will have to wait until LE announces what they discovered during their investigation.

For almost 2 years now you have encouraged the FLDS at the ranch to file lawsuits, maybe one has and you are being subpoena, why would you try to hide from that when you have said you would help them? Or maybe the state of Texas is subpoening you because you have helped the FLDS so much, this could be your chance to tell Texas what we all think of them. And you could stand up for the FLDS, why would you run and hide?

This is breaking my heart, I have looked up to you, respected you for speaking out and now you are going to run and hide when you could really help? I feel like my whole world is crashing down, I had such a different impression of you, I never thought you would run and hide when you could help. He’s also pointed out that Fischer is bankrolling the actions against the FLDS.

  40. This is not one person’s site, and cannot be hi jacked.

If you have something to say and you are not a brain dead lemming, have at it.

As for the comment of “Pins”, my dream is to be able to converse and get to show the Country that these Mormon’s are not the monsters they are made out to be, and that they know that not everybody out there is a moron being led by the nose (Or another part of their anatomy).

I would love it to be able to have open conversations with the people on the Ranch, in the twin towns and up in the refrigerator (Sorry Merril), but so long as everyone is going to twist their words against them, that is not possible yet and we have to keep the communication strictly private for now.

As disgusting as the fantasy going on in Missouri is, it is inexorably linked to what went on in Mineola, Arkansas and the Ranch.

Only after the passage of time did anyone in this Country EVER admit that the horror stories of mass child abuse in the 1980s was a “Witch hunt” put on by LE, nut jobs and prosecutors looking for votes.

Only by looking back, could people actually see for themselves how utterly stupid they had been. How many people reading those headlines back then did and said the same exact thing then that they are doing and saying right now?

So far, the “Proof” we have is a man buying legal porn. ANYTIME the government of these United States wants to shut down the ten ($10,000,000,000.00) BILLION dollar PER YEAR porn industry in this Country, it CAN. Until then, those men have the same right to purchase it in Missouri that Randy Mankin does in Texas.

As was said, you can’t just say that what is going on in Missouri is sad, you HAVE to make it RIDICULOUS enough for only a fool to believe.

There are a lot of fools out there, so we have to spread the word.

These men can, and will, spend decades in prison until reason and common sense once more prevails. It takes a great deal of effort to crack through knuckleheads, and we seem to have a bumper crop of them in Texas.

  41. I know I felt like I was hijacking Bill’s blog, but the issues in the FLDS case & the Mohlers have similarities. In both cases, there are many wild accusations being fed to the press, with damn little evidence to back them up. If you thought a fake Sarah was baloney, what about the made-up memories of these adults? Both cases show you how the State uses the media to make the accused look like a monster, so that NO ONE will dare speak up in their defense. And how do you do that in this day & age? Accuse them molesting children. For some reason, that accusation makes people lose their minds. It is a horrific crime, but that should be no reason why we shouldn’t expect LE to actually back up their allegations with evidence.

  43. Pins,

It’s difficult to find very much “uplifting” when we’re discussing anything governing authorities do today, but I’ll try! :)

The occurrences that come the closest recently was the fact Raymond was only sentenced to 10 years, that it put the state on the defensive by them seeking a change of venue AND the motion for a hearing on “experts” in WJ’s case.

In Raymond’s case, I still was amazed at how well they did in the sentencing in walther’s court. She bent over backwards to allow all the state presented as evidence and they still could not get the maximum sentence.

The motion for a change of venue displays how desperate a move it is by the state. The numbers on how many jurors are available seems to depend on who you ask, but even using the numbers Nichols provided tells me that there are enough jurors available, as all that did not serve can be called as potential jurors again.

Though Willie told us ALL the boxes of evidence were marked STATE V. FLDS - state versus a church LOL! - they are NOT all the same case and the qualification of the jurors are not the same for all cases.

On the motion in WJ’s case, it was evidently written for the media and public to read, as they the so-called-experts look like paid thugs (Fischer…) being used ONLY to convict him through association with a following ALL those “experts” have spent their recent lives trying to color as some cult where ALL the members are evil or brainwashed.

If it helps any, reading that MOTION makes it much clearer just how ridiculous it was for walther to allow Musser as an expert on the church records.

Meanwhile, the Missouri cases may only involve a fraction of the actual victims as the YFZ case did, but it is a prime example of how authorities can work so hard to convict you of MURDERS & SEXUAL ASSAULT OF CHILDREN in the media before they have any sound evidence to actually substantiate the charges. Just more of the word games so many prosecutors & lawmen use to make themselves look like heroes.

  44. What scares me the most is knowing that some sick person could call the police or CPS and make up some horrible, filthy lie about you. The police could put you in jail or CPS could take your children away from you without any real evidence that you committed a crime or did something to hurt a child other than what a deranged person said.

To make things worse, your name and photographs could be plastered all over the internet. People would believe the worst about you without even giving you the benefit of doubt. You would be tried by the media instead of a court of law. Your life could be completely ruined simply because a sick person made up a vicious, perverse lie about you.

Before the YFZ raid, I truly believed in our constitutional rights. I thought most Americans believed that people should be presumed innocent until after they were proven guilty in a court of law. I believed that Americans would look for the best in the people instead believing of the worst. I thought most Americans knew it is wrong to hate people because of their religion or their skin color. I thought Americans were tolerant and open-minded. I used to think that our prisons were full of hardened criminals. Now I wonder about how many innocent people are locked up.

Before we change the subject, may I ask you a few questions?

Why are the Mohler men still in jail? Are they in jail because no one has posted bail for them? It seems like the only evidence the police have re the Mohler family are the accusations that those women made about them. Can the police and the courts keep you in jail even if they don’t have any real evidence that you committed crimes?

I’ve read that only one man has an attorney. I thought that if you couldn’t afford an attorney, the court would appoint an attorney to represent you in a criminal matter. Why hasn’t the court appointed attorneys to represent all the Mohler men?

I read that the state won’t appoint an attorney to represent the man from Florida because he has a $2,000 per month pension. But I doubt that he has thousands of dollars to pay an attorney to defend him. What will happen to him if he doesn’t have enough money to pay an attorney?

These poor guys are facing serious charges and could be sentenced to death or life in prison solely as a result of “recovered’ memories of events that allegedly transpired 15-20 years ago. If ridiculing and mocking these grueseome tales of debauchery and exposing their utter falsity helps get these men back to their homes and families then that means we have done our part to ensure justice.

Anyone remember that beer commercial with twins posing provocatively? If you do you may be a child molester. :)

  52. Please be a little sceptical of this report. It might be a leak by a desperate police force to a gullible media.

  53. The Kansas City Star is reporting that the police found incest pornography in the old man’s home.

  55. At least one person in the MSM is beginning to question the use of recovered memories and the appalling lack of evidence. Susan Saulny of the NYT:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/18/us/18family.html

A spokesman for the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Sgt. Collin Stosberg, pressed on the question of “recovered” memories leading to criminal charges, said, “We feel like we have enough evidence, otherwise we wouldn’t have gotten to this point.”…Law enforcement officials had been looking specifically for glass jars…When asked if investigators had found any written statements, Sergeant Stosberg declined to comment.
