SALT LAKE TRIBUNE REPORTS TEXAS IS ROUTINELY OVER SENTENCING ITS PRISONERS

According to a reporter from the Salt Lake Tribune who is at the trial for Raymond Jessop on a charge of sexual assault of a child, which supposedly by Law carries sentences ranging from probation to 20 years imprisonment, she asked the State for the figures on sentencing times for this crime, and Texas came back to her with these figures which she dutifully posted:

“As of September 30, 2009, there were 12,091 offenders with Sexual Assault of a child as their Offense of Record. (Note: The Offense of Record is the offense which incarcerates the offender for the longest period of time.)

“Of this total, 797 are serving a life sentence; 1 is serving life without parole; and of the remaining 11,293 offenders, the average sentence is 22.2 years.”

Admittedly, I was not the best math student in school, but still, how does one fit a sentence of between probation and 20 years with the States response?

I guess it works if Texas assumes that 20 years is considered a “Life” term, but I don’t think the good old boys have that in mind. Still it doesn’t explain the 2.2 sentence over kill, I wonder if the prisoners know this?

The same reporter reported that just one witness in the case has been paid $44,000.00 for his testimony against Raymond. This is not possible as the reporter MUST KNOW. As the State of Texas told it’s citizens since may, 2008 the cost of this party is just a little over twelve million dollars, and not a cent more has been spent by them in this case since that date.

Maybe some civic minded Texan has been donating his own money to eradicate the Mormon’s from the State? Better yet, CPS, CASA, the Courts, LE, and everyone involved in the prosecution has waived their salary in this matter? If that’s the case, I have to change my mind about these fine up standing patriots, when push comes to shove, they are ready to protect their homes and their children from these filthy Mormon’s and I congratulate them.

That has to be Larry Beall. And no telling how much he got for hypnotizing and deprogramming all those ex-members.

  3. A “life” sentence with the possibility of parole is 40 years, flat. No time off for good behavior, etc.

Yes, absolutely, it’s an apples to oranges comparison.

Brooke would need to break it down by the degree of the conviction. Who knows whether they have that data or not.

  5. Yeah,

She’s good at throwing people a life saver…
after she’s thrown them over board.

If I were a reporter, I would want to know exactly who else the State paid to buy their testimony against Raymond.

At his rate, this guy is going to get maybe a half million if he testifies against all 12, and then you have the bribes to Becky, Carolyn, Flora, Sam (If he can get his son out of jail in time).

I wonder who the anonymous donor is who is footing the bill for this circus/ I know it ain’t Poor old Dan, he’s up to his neck in I.R.S. Investigators trying to hide all his Vendetta payments that went tax free until now. With that and the beating he took in the market, his #2 wife and kids can expect some pretty severe times ahead with “Daddy”.

  6. Actually RiH the data is skewed. The data includes those convicted of 1st degree sexual assault. Raymond was convicted of 2nd degree so the averages above wouldn’t apply to him.

  7. One word: enhancement

She actually says that later in the article. Of the ones in prison a number will be repeat offenders who could get more than 20 years.
